2 1/2 days previous to this photo I was fine. I was confident, I was keen, I was raring to go.
I underestimated the terrain, the cold and the Climbing and I grossly overestimated my ability.
Overladen on an overgeared bike is not a good place to be when the first day has felt like a week.
You may well ask why I’m going back? Why am I putting myself through this pain? Why am I setting myself up to fail again?
Well maybe that’s just me.
Maybe getting just another mile further than last year is Winning.
I already know how hard this is going to be and if I can make the finish after 830 miles within the 8 day 6 hour time limit, that will literally be the biggest physical and sporting achievement of my life.
I’m doing this for me. I’ve got something to prove to myself but I do not have to answer to anyone. To me the first part of success is being on that start line. I will then measure my own success in my acceptance that whatever the outcome, however far I get, I know I gave it my all.
I’m better prepared, firstly mentally knowing just how hard it will be, but I’ve also got a more suitable MTB with subtle adjustments and alterations to help with comfort and ability.
I am supported by some amazing top notch companies, and I am thrilled that they’ve chosen to support me, but to me, whatever quality product they have supplied me with, at whatever value, it is nothing compared to their belief in me and the drive it gives me to represent them. 🙏
Some people just see sponsorships and partnerships as what they can get out of it.
To me, it’s about the relationship.
I hope you will follow my attempt at finishing the @atlasmountainrace It’s an amazing but incredibly difficult event in a beautiful country with harsh terrain and warm people.
